The same goes for your mouse and keyboard – when you want a new one, you just purchase the model you’d like, bring it home, and plug it in.

You can quickly and easily add many different options to your desktop, including speakers, printer, and other peripherals.

if you’d like to upgrade RAM or add a second hard drive you can generally do so pretty easily. Graphics cards and other system components can also be upgraded. It’s much, much harder to perform such upgrades with a laptop computer.

Repairs on desktops are generally simpler – and less costly, as well.

Security

Though the inherent security of your desktop is probably not greater than the security of your laptop, there are some security advantages granted just because your computer is stationary.

You’re not going to accidentally leave your computer somewhere… nor is anyone going to try and snatch it away from you. It’s less likely to be around unauthorized users who may try to access your stored files and information.

In the even that your home is broken into, your desktop is not as likely to be stolen as a laptop would be.

On a related note: because your computer is moved less often, it’s much less likely to get dropped and broken!

The design of desktop computers has stood the test of time. They’re built solidly and manufacturers know the proper place to put ventilation holes. This allows your computer to stay cool and functional for you. Even if you put your computer under your desk, it will most likely be able to vent properly. Plus, you can easily vacuum out your desktop vents.

A laptop is a constantly evolving experiment in design, and even some of the newer models have very poor vent designs. They may look good on paper, but in real life, they don’t work well and the computers overheat. This is a surprisingly common laptop flaw that can cause loss of data and corruption of your operating system.

This basic overview highlights just some of the advantages of a desktop computer over a notebook. If your computer does not need to travel with you, I highly recommend you get a good desktop. Choose one with the features you need, and look for a model that will allow for upgrade. This will give you the most value and the longest use from your purchase.
